The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 became Public Law 111-5 on February 17, 2009, as H.R. 1. Among its provisions, section 1001 created the making work pay credit: for an eligible individual, the lesser of 6.2 percent of earned income or $400 ($800 on a joint return), reduced by 2 percent of modified adjusted gross income above $75,000. By its terms it did not apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2010. This record covers only that provision so far; the law's spending titles have not yet been researched. Economic effects, who was affected and why people disagree are marked as not yet researched where that is so. No person has signed off on this record.
